Bankside Cafe sits along Wincolmlee in Hull, offering a straightforward, no-frills spot that feels genuinely rooted in the local working community. It’s the kind of place you stumble upon when you need a solid, hearty meal without fuss, and the cafe delivers consistently on that front.

The atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming—more akin to a classic working man’s canteen than a modern trendy cafe. Spaces inside aren’t about sleek design but practical comfort, reflecting how this spot caters to people after a morning’s work or a midday break. There’s a steady flow of regulars who appreciate the value, portion size, and friendly service from staff who know many by name.

The menu is modest but varied enough to cover everyday cravings: think generous bacon and mushroom breadcakes, classic pies with mash or chips, and filling omelettes with salad and chips. The prices sit on the affordable side for what you get, making it a reliable go-to for a filling breakfast or a midday plate. While it might not cater to anything fancy, each dish is familiar and crafted with a dependable quality that locals keep coming back for.

Delivery is an option too, with careful packaging and treats like brownies showing they put thought beyond just the food. Whether you’re grabbing breakfast early (they even open on New Year’s Day) or dropping by for a quick lunch sandwich or hearty dinner plate, Bankside Cafe feels suitable for anyone who values straightforward meals served with a local touch.

Visitors looking for an easy place to sit down, enjoy a substantial portion, and get in and out with decent conversation and friendly nods will find this cafe fits the bill well. It’s an everyday spot rather than a destination, perfect for those who want a reliable meal close to Hull’s city center without fuss or pretense.

Honestly the best sandwich I’ve ever got from a cafe, it’s massive and tastes amazing. Also got a lasagne and chips for lunch which tastes incredible. May be a bit more pricey than your usual cafe but it’s well worth the money. Only cafe I’ll use now!

The food service and pricing are excellent. For a workings mans cafe in my opinion the service and quality can not be beaten.

Best breakfast I’ve had in a while. Very well priced for the amount of food you get. Open on New Year’s Day too.

Best Bacon and mushroom breadcake I've had. Enormous size too, even the standard size. Good price, nice staff.

We often pop in for a breakfast, which is very well priced for the size of it. Ie: we always go small because the portions are so big. Black pudding as standard is a huge plus We always make allowances for times they may be very busy with lunch orders for the workers from the surrounding industrial area. It is what it is- we either stay if we have time or don't if we don't!
